I am still fresh to this job so I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a increase in inmates fighting latley and what some advice experinced officers might have.

If it's 2 inmates fighting 1 on 1, let them beat the hell out of each other as long as no one and no weapons come into play, then gas them and break the fight up. If it's an unfair fight, then gas them as soon as you can, especially if it's more than 2 babyrapers fighting, because then, I believe, it's a bona-fide tdcj riot, at least by policy.
If they jump on a boss, like 3 of the little med. custody b1tches did last Saturday to Officer Christiansen at Coffield, then jump in and get them off of the officer and try to knock out a few of their teeth before gassing them. Don't keep your *ss up on 3 row and never make it to the party.
There's more to go along with that last statement, but you'll pick that up on your shift and they'll teach you how it gets handled, by policy.

All I know is, I have written a lot of "guided said offender to the wall, and then the floor"-s in my short time here.
Remember that creative writing class you took in HS? There you go.
Look, as seriousness goes, you want to keep yourself, and your co-workers out of harm's way. If possible, keep yourself distanced from the fight, and, as hogtrapper said, let them beat the snot out of each other, so long as there is no weapons, and it is one on one. Stop the fight when you think it is over, i.e. you have one inmate beating the other to levels of unconsiousness. The knuckleheads will tire out eventually. Stay safe, keep warm, yada yada.

I agree..If a boss aint getting hurt there is no sense in putting ourselves in harms way just because they want to box...
Hep C, HIV, and other sh!t they carry doesn't go away...If they get too out of hand... Spray their ass with COP and continue to give them orders to stop...This is to cover your ass..

One more quick thought about this, more pertaining to when they jump on an officer. You can't keep an inmate from jumping on an officer, but you can make damn sure he thinks about it before he does it again.

You get a big Amen from me on this one. I've been there, both as the responder, and the one getting jumped. If you're fighting with a pos crook seconds seem like minutes, and minutes seem like hours. And, those grey suites coming to help are the most welcome sight in the world.
When an officer is being assaulted you use the force necessary to stop the assault. If that means kicking his azz, go to azz kicking.
